Team Descriptions/Generic Responsibilities
for Consideration for Board of Director Nominations

 

PUBLIC SERVICE
Two Board Members co-lead the Public Service team of volunteers

Each year, the local chapter of AAF chooses a worthy non-profit organization to arm with a full-scale multi-media campaign. The work produced by the Public Service team has achieved critical acclaim and has received numerous AAF national Club Achievement Awards. 

It is ideal that the Public Service team should include a creative director, copywriter, producer, public relations executive, media planner, media vendor, production manager and supporting members to help facilitate in-kind donations from vendors, production management and client communications. 

The Public Service team assists the Membership committee with the planning of the AAF local chapter Holiday Party and Silent Auction. The Public Service committee will coordinate a Day of Service with AAF Omaha’s non-profit partner.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Two Board Members co-lead the Professional Development team of volunteers

This team arranges speakers and activities for the club’s AdBites meeting/luncheon or breakfast/programs and webinars, 6 in 60 panel discussions, and The Learning Hour. They coordinate all professional development programming details including meeting notices, location, reservations, event publicity, ticket collections, audio/visual, and attendance record maintenance with the assistance of the Executive Director. 

The Professional Development team is responsible for developing all communications to promote the AdBites programs, 6 in 60, and The Learning Hour events to AAF members and non-members. 

The challenge for this team is to develop a series of meaningful, entertaining and educational programs that address the diverse needs of federation members across Nebraska.

MEMBERSHIP
Two Board Members co-lead this Membership team of volunteers

This team is all about getting people interested in AAF and watching out for the best interest of members. This team organizes membership drives, recruits and motivates new members and constantly analyzes and promotes the benefits of membership in AAF to all individuals involved in, or interested in, the advertising industry. Team members also act as greeters at events, make calls to new and prospective members and develop and distribute an annual survey to new, existing, lapsed and resigning club members. The Membership team with the assistance of the Public Service committee plans and orchestrates the local chapter’s AAF Holiday Party and Silent Auction. 

By keeping a pulse on the health and well-being of the membership, it gives a good indication of how well the organization will function and prosper. Each committee and member are involved with the Membership Committee through events, word-of-mouth, and the positive relationships within the organization. 

This team also encourages minority and multicultural involvement in the advertising industry with the goal to increase minority representation in the Nebraska ad community through educational and recruitment programs for the AAF and Nebraska advertising-related businesses.

LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS
Two Board Members co-lead the Legislative Affairs team of volunteers

Ever wondered who makes the rules? The AAF Legislative Affairs team focuses on key areas and projects designed to build effective relations with our local, state and national government and educate them about advertising. 

This group of leaders also educates our members on legislation, both favorable and adverse, and from time to time may spearhead proactive and defensive actions. In addition, they promote civic engagement and social responsibility among our members as well as industry self-regulation.

SPECIAL EVENTS/FUNDRAISING
Two Board Members co-lead the Special Events/Fundraising team of volunteers

Money can’t buy happiness, but it does pay the bills. We need money to function and this team helps us get it. The four main fundraising events, held annually and coordinated by the committee, are the AAF  Roast and Awards Program, AdWars, BINGO, and Bowl-A-Rama. A portion of the money raised benefits the AAFO’s fully integrated marketing campaign for one non-profit organization, chosen by the organization each year. Money raised also helps fund student scholarships and other programs that further our members’ education and are designed to enrich and encourage new skills in the industry.

This committee ideally should plan one or two additional fundraising events each year. In the past, these have included Bid the Blues Auction and Concert, Grape and Grain Tasting and Auction, a mini golf tournament, a golf tournament, a volleyball tournament, and Arts & Crafts.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH/Education and Diversity in Advertising
Two Board Members co-lead the Community Outreach/Education and Diversity team of volunteers

This team is charged with coordinating activities with students at local middle and high schools, colleges, and universities. The Community Outreach team works each year with area student outreach programs (YES, Partnership 4 Kids and 100 Black Men to name a few). The Community Outreach team will work on programs and projects designed to bring an awareness of professions in the advertising industry to area youth by participating in outreach programs serving minority students. Through the team’s Speaker’s Bureau program, the public and high school and college students are educated on the role and benefits of advertising in our society.

The Community Outreach team also works toward advancing the field of advertising among young professionals and students. They head up scholarship and student recognition programs and shape the direction of the club’s community outreach. Personal visits to colleges and universities to talk with advertising students about the club and the ad industry are also in their repertoire. The Community Outreach team oversees the club’s mentorship program connecting members with college students for a mentorship relationship. 

The Community Outreach team will monitor the AAF Mosaic Council for Multiculturalism programs and projects to assist AAF Omaha in creating meaningful programming throughout the year. The American Advertising Federation’s Mosaic Council is an established infrastructure of national advertisers, general market and multicultural advertising agencies, media organizations and suppliers. As the advertising industry’s premier think tank on diversity and inclusion, the council identifies best practices for achieving greater industry multiculturalism while advancing the common interest of all industry segments. AAF’s local chapter works on programs and initiatives to help educate our members and the advertising community on inclusivity and diversity in advertising.

COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC RELATIONS
Two Board Members co-lead the Communications/Public Relations team of volunteers

Our industry has made communication an art. The Communications team assures that. As experts in advertising and marketing communications, we are practicing what we preach by maximizing the effectiveness of marketing communications. 

To truly establish a credible position as the leading marketing communications professional organization, or “The Unifying Voice of Advertising,” we need to employ the best practices in everything from brand identity management to direct marketing and measurement. 

This team handles the copywriting, design, production, and ad/banner sales for the local chapter of AAF’s AdMuse newsletter and website. In addition, creates and maintains all the club social accounts and writes and sends out press releases, pitch stories and keeps a clippings file for our portfolio. 

The Communications team also gets involved with media exposure for club activities, programs and key club milestones (like every time we win districts and nationals for our Public Service project!). 

The Communications team members work with various committees to promote the AAF and club objectives in the media and stay on the lookout for innovative ways to send out key club information. Team members develop collateral pieces, execute web projects and manage the club’s brand.

AMERICAN ADVERTISING AWARDS | NEBRASKA
Two Board Members co-lead the American Advertising Awards | Nebraska team of volunteers

This team runs the local American Advertising Awards | Nebraska competition recognizing outstanding achievement in advertising. Using the AAF American Advertising Awards Manual, this team conducts the competition (including promotion and judging) and organizes the logins, preview party and awards events. 

The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. Conducted annually by AAF, the local Ad club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY® Awards – recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY® winners competed against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY® winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in the American Advertising Awards – Nebraska competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY ®.

MEET THE PROS
Two Board Members co-lead the Meet the Pros team of volunteers

This team works to create an exciting and informative seminar for college-level students interested in careers in advertising or marketing. Meet the Pros is an annual two-day conference giving college students from across the region an opportunity to explore careers in the advertising industry. Meet the Pros includes skill-building workshops, portfolio reviews, agency tours and professional round table meet and greets. Students make professional contacts and the conference offers in-person direction in academic studies, work options and extracurricular activities that will assist students in achieving their career objectives.

ON Brand 2021 & 2022
Two Board Members work with co-leaders and volunteers from four like minded member trade organizations

The ON Brand conference is for those who build, develop, analyze, protect, produce, create, lead and direct and build and plan and design and research brands! 

The ON Brand conference is an inspirational look at branding, presented in concert by four national trade organizations’ local chapters: AAF, AIGA Nebraska, AMA Omaha, and PRSA Nebraska. The four organizations have developed a unique annual conference for professionals working to create, support and promote strong brands. This conference provides education and development for the many facets of branding, as well as a valuable networking experience for individual career growth.

Nominations are being taken for the 2021-2022 Second Vice President – in succession plan this person would move up on the executive team and become President of the federation for the 2023-2024 club year that would run July 1, 2023 through June 31, 2024.

Nominations are due by April 30, 2021.  The board of directors election materials with the slate of officers and board members for the 2021-2022 federation year will be sent to members in June 2021 for approval.
