So much has changed in the world over the last few months as issues like privacy, taxes and equality top the headlines. The Nebraska Legislature was dismissed early in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak and will reconvene July 20th through August 13th. The Legislative Committee is dedicated to keep our members informed and will be reviewing bills that may impact our industry in the upcoming session. In response to the deaths of George Floyd and James Scurlock, the Nebraska Judiciary Committee held listening forums June 8th and 9th to allow the public to speak directly to state lawmakers responsible for the oversight of the state’s justice system. The events were well attended and streamed on NET.

Governor Ricketts announced new grant programs for Nebraska businesses as part of Get Nebraska Growing. The programs are being funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. They are designed to aid Nebraska small businesses by providing working capital; provide retraining for the un- and underemployed; provide new training for business leaders; and increase rural broadband access.
