Joanne has been a central part of the fabric of the AAF for decades; over that time, her enormous talent, energy, and commitment has been a driving force in our national club network. Joanne has made an enormous and very positive impact on so many people in our large and diverse Federation — indeed she has fostered and mentored an entire generation of AAF leaders, all of whom have tremendous respect for her, as do I. She is a leader of leaders, and in many respects a creator of leaders — a remarkable thing. So on behalf of our entire organization, I thank her for her outstanding service to the AAF and our Membership. She will be incredibly missed, and I look forward to celebrating her remarkable tenure at ADMERICA.”

Joanne’s involvement with the AAF’s professional club network began when she joined the Utah Advertising Federation, where she was elected Club President in 1988; in 1989, under her innovative leadership, the club was named the AAF’s Club of the Year. From there Joanne used her club management skills as the Executive Director of the Advertising Club of Los Angeles, which was then also named Club of the Year in 1993. Shortly thereafter, she joined AAF National’s staff as the Vice President of Club Services, and moved up the ranks over the years to Executive Vice President, having served in that role ever since.

Joanne wrote, developed and taught the Association Leadership Training Program that is to this day used for club growth and leadership; and encouraged members at every level to explore leadership roles at the national level. She was responsible for the successful management of the re-branding of the American Advertising Awards, and expanding the Club Achievement Competition. For her work, Joanne received the prestigious AAF Betty Riehl Excellence in Service Award in 2008.

Joanne Schecter said: “The greatest joy of my career with the AAF was the opportunity I had to get to know and work alongside thousands of talented and gifted people. The friendships that arose from those connections were the “bonus” of my work. I consider myself most fortunate to have learned and shared time and work with so many wonderful people and that is something that I will dearly miss.”
